The Tranquil Grid — A Modern Minimalist 3BHK in Baner, Pune

By Architect Aaryesh Bhosale, Principal Architect, Ken Architects, Pune

Introduction

The Tranquil Grid is a modern minimalist 3BHK residence located in the vibrant neighborhood of Baner, Pune. Designed by Ken Architects, the 1,207 sq. ft. home is envisioned as a serene retreat that balances simplicity, functionality, and timeless elegance.

Created for a young family that values calmness and connection, the design embodies the principles of modern minimalism — where every decision is intentional, every detail serves a purpose, and visual harmony is achieved through balance and restraint.

The Design Philosophy: The Minimalist Equation

Minimalism here isn’t just about fewer objects — it’s about more meaning. The Tranquil Grid was conceptualized as a home that complements the rhythm of everyday life, offering clarity and calm through thoughtful design.

The guiding philosophy rests on three key principles:

  1. Geometry as OrderAn invisible grid system subtly governs furniture placement, lighting, and wall panel divisions. This geometric discipline establishes a consistent visual rhythm, creating a seamless flow between spaces.

  2. Neutral, Layered PaletteThe interiors embrace a palette of soft beiges, muted greys, and warm whites. Natural wood tones and cool stone finishes add depth and contrast, resulting in a soothing yet dynamic visual experience.

  3. Light as a Design MaterialNatural light is treated as an architectural element in itself. Large windows fill the living and dining areas with daylight, while layered artificial lighting — from recessed spotlights to sculptural pendants — creates mood and dimension.

The Heart of the Home: Living and Dining

The living and dining areas form the social core of the home.A low-profile sofa, handcrafted center table, and sleek media console define the living room — a space that celebrates openness and calm. The absence of ornamentation allows light and proportion to take center stage.

Adjacent to it, the dining space is anchored by a minimal wooden table and upholstered chairs. A sculptural pendant light above adds a contemporary touch, becoming a focal point without disrupting the serene mood.

Kitchen: Functional Precision

The kitchen continues the home’s minimalist narrative.Soft grey matte cabinetry pairs elegantly with a white quartz countertop, offering both sophistication and practicality. A modular layout integrates pull-out systems, pantry units, and open shelving, balancing function and form with understated precision.

Bedrooms: Personalized Calm

Each bedroom carries the essence of minimalism while subtly reflecting the personality of its occupant.

  • Master BedroomA tranquil sanctuary defined by muted tones, custom wood-upholstered headboard, and hidden bedside storage. Wall-mounted lighting frees up space, reinforcing the sense of openness.

  • Guest BedroomFlexible and inviting, the guest room serves as both a resting place and a quiet reading nook. Minimal furniture and textured fabrics add comfort without excess.

  • Children’s RoomA blend of playfulness and order — pastel accents, multifunctional furniture, and ample storage make it both lively and practical.

Materiality and Textural Harmony

To prevent the sterility sometimes associated with minimalism, The Tranquil Grid introduces thoughtful contrasts — quartz meeting oak veneers, matte finishes balanced by lacquered sheens, and woven rugs grounding the spaces. This interplay of textures creates a tactile warmth, making the home feel welcoming and lived-in.

Bespoke Storage Solutions

Sustaining a minimalist lifestyle requires intelligent storage. From concealed wardrobes to under-bed drawers and flush cabinetry, every room features customized storage solutions that preserve visual clarity. Even in shared areas, storage units double as display shelves — ensuring practicality never compromises aesthetics.

Execution Excellence

The project’s execution mirrored its disciplined design intent. From concept approval to handover, The Tranquil Grid was completed within a strict timeline through:

  • Detailed Planning – Every dimension, material, and electrical layout was finalized in advance to minimize on-site improvisation.

  • Vendor Coordination – Trusted vendors and skilled craftspeople ensured consistent quality.

  • Phased Execution – Parallel workflows in carpentry, painting, and lighting kept progress seamless and efficient.

The Emotional Impact

Stepping into The Tranquil Grid evokes an immediate sense of calm. The design is not merely visual—it’s experiential. The rhythm of light, proportion, and material interplay encourages a slower pace of living, inviting its residents to pause, breathe, and reconnect.

A Contemporary Expression of Elegance

In an age of fleeting design trends, The Tranquil Grid stands as a testament to timeless modernism. It proves that minimalism, when approached thoughtfully, can be both warm and deeply human.

The home balances visual elegance with everyday usability — a space designed not to impress, but to endure.
